Jigs and Bigs Fishing Report:8.10.23

Happy Thursday folks and thanks for checking out another Western MA fishing report!

Jerry got out twice over the weekend. Saturday he fished a smaller 109 acres clearwater pond in Berkshire county that he said has a lot  of subsurface weed growth throughout much of the pond, with some weedless areas of rock. He landed eleven bass, a mix of largemouth and smallmouth, using neko rigged green pumpkin stick baits and ned baits rigged weedless in ten  feet of water. Jerry reports that the water temperature has dropped a bit ok in the hills  running from 68 to 70 degrees on some ponds and lakes. Sunday was another day in the Berkshires for Jerry on a similar sized pond with hardly any visibility. He brought in a dozen largemouth bass in shallow water with thick weeds, dropping a black and blue neko rigged worm in the openings in weeds.

Shawn the Fisherman got out a couple times this week on some smaller ponds around Western Mass. He reports that for the most part the bite was deep and light. He said that he landed numerous species dropshotting weed line edges in 10 to 20 feet of water.I also managed some larger bass throwing jigs on timber where I could find it.Be sure to back out a bit deeper on lakes with regular weekend recreational traffic!

Nelson made it out a couple times this week too, once in the valley and once out to the East and reports that he had the same type of action at both bodies of water. After beating the bank for a couple hours with no action, I moved to deeper water and found some decent fish. Multiple species too. Nelson said that most of the more quality bass came from 10 to 20 feet of water on a drop shot. He also caught pickerel, bluegills, and bullhead in the same areas. Nelson reports that this is a trend that he has had for the last few weeks at several different bodies of water.

and would suggest that if you’re not having luck beating the bank, move out to deeper water. Water temperatures were in the mid to upper 70’s at both bodies of water and notes that with higher water temperatures, the fish are looking for cooler water. Get out there and get ‘em!! Be safe!

The weather here in Western MA for the weekend looks spotty, with some rain on Saturday and Sunday. If you’re lucky enough to get out tomorrow tho it’s looking beautiful! Summer seems to be starting to wind down but with a few weekends left be safe out there fishing with all the recreational boats on the water. Stay safe, and tight lines!
