Jigs and Bigs Fishing Report:07/11/24

Well it’s Thursday again, and I definitely slacked off last week to enjoy the long weekend. The heat has been brutal but we are still finding the fish!

We have lots of fishy pics this week from all over. First we have my cousin Michelle who took her kayak for a rip on Cobbetts Pond in Windham, NH and landed some nice largies on rubber swim baits with her hubby. Clearly she learned something from me about kissing the fish…

I fished Friday of last week with her brother Chris, our friend Barry and my friend Toni on Ashfield Lake starting at an early 7 am. The water was very warm and we found the bite on the bottom while sending it from the bank. We were fishing worms and power eggs, catching 3 bullhead, lots of sunnies, and 2 rainbows. Toni also fished at home on Sunday afternoon landing some really nice fat largies on a senko work from the kayak working weeded shorelines on Glass Lake in Ny.

Andy was able to get out last week onto Otis with his friend Joe. He reported the water was 69 degrees and they had clear skies with a breeze to start, then over cast. Andy said that didn’t effect the bite! They stayed behind islands and other wind breaks to fish the calmer water and landed plenty of fish all on soft plastics. All of the fish we caught were in the weeds, nothing at all off the boat docks or rock structures. If you know where the weeds beds are head there early in the day.

Topless Tim hit up Congamond for a club tournament and reported a slow bite commenting that the heat has them all wacky. He did manage a limit throwing finesse worms reporting that it was a mixture of deeper bites on offshore structure, docks, and finding bait to fish around. At one point, I located a school of bait and behind me bass were voraciously attack another school behind me. I fired out a fluke and immediately was hooked up! Should have stayed with that bait ball longer! Tim commented that it’s important to always have a bait ready to go in those types of situations.

He went back to Congamond a couple of days later, still in the sweltering heat, and managed a decent amount of bass this time dock fishing with a Senko.  He also got out to a Central Mass lake that he had never fished before for another hot day. Tim caught 14 nibbler bass throwing a finesse worm in and around weeds in 6-10 ft of water and said that the color didn’t matter.  I had to cull through probably 20 pickerel as well. This heat really has them funky! Stay hydrated!!

Special shoutout to the hosts of Jigs & Bigs! We got Bobby and Joe both sporting new boats AND a new PB giant for Joe! You can catch the video of his massive bass that was on a topwater (awesome sauce!) on IG and TikTok – @americanvetfishing! Also gotta give a huge shoutout to Brodie Davis – the winner of the J&B Bass Slot Tourney – coming in with over 220 inches and he’s 11 years old. Watch out for this kid, he’s CRUSHING it and only going to get better!

The heat looks like it is going to continue through the weekend so if you’re out there fishing be mindful of a quick release, especially for trout. If you’re not eating them, get them back in the water and oxygenated! Stay safe out there folks, and most of all, HAVE FUN!

Tight lines!
