The fishing has definitely slowed down but Tim still made it out and got some beauties!
Tim got out on the Connecticut River the first weekend in December. He said the water temperature was a balmy 36 degrees. The bite was a little slow until he hit a bite window around noon. They boated 16 smallies ranging from a 21.5 inch 5 poinder to a 1 pound. He said the majority of the fish were in the 3-4 lb range and the swim bait and blade bait brought them boatside.
Today he got out on Congamond for a few hours, where the water temperature was 41. Tim reports he is still fishing deep using sonar. He nailed another state pin smallie coming in at 20 inches and just over 4 lbs! I ended with 5 fish today mostly on blade bait in 25-30 ft of water.
Brett reports that we are one the threshold of smaller lakes and ponds freezing in southern Berkshires. Mountain top ponds were frozen over completely over a week ago but the recent warm weather has probably opened them back up.
That’s all for this week, but stay tuned! If you’re anything like me, you’re itching for harder fishing. Tight lines!
